Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Chopta (1350 meters; drive 200 km; 5–6 hours)

Your trekking adventure begins as you meet your hosts at the Dehradun Railway Station, Airport, or Bus Stand. After a brief introductory session, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through the towns of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath, enjoying views of river confluences and winding mountain roads. The destination for the day is Chopta, nestled within a reserved forest known for its thick oak groves and cool mountain air. Upon arrival in Chopta, you’ll set up camp amidst nature and relax beside a cozy bonfire before enjoying a hot dinner. Overnight stay in tents at Chopta.

Day 2: Chopta - Tungnath - Chandrashila - Return to Chopta (7 km trek; 5–6 hours)

Day 2 starts with the beautiful surroundings of Chopta as the backdrop for your trek. The adventure begins with a 3-kilometer uphill trek to the sacred Tungnath temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. As you ascend, the temple becomes visible in the final stretch, standing majestically in the lap of the Himalayas. After spending time at Tungnath, you will continue your climb towards Chandrashila peak, perched at 3925 meters. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic, 360-degree views of the towering Himalayan ranges, including peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. After soaking in the spectacular vistas, you will trek back to Chopta, covering 7 kilometers in total. Dinner and overnight stay in Chopta.

Day 3: Chopta - Ukhimath - Return to Dehradun

On the final day, after breakfast, you will visit Ukhimath, where you’ll explore the famous Shiv temple, a place of great spiritual significance. After visiting the temple, you’ll begin your return journey to Dehradun, retracing the scenic route back through the hills. You will be dropped off at the Dehradun Railway Station, Airport, or Bus Stand, marking the end of your Chopta Tungnath trek.
