Day 1: Arrival at Gangotri
Arrive at Gangotri and meet your trek guide. After check-in at the hotel, visit the famous Gangotri Temple for the evening aarti. Explore the local market to buy any last-minute trekking essentials. Gangotri, the base for the Kedartal trek, is known for its spiritual significance and tranquil beauty. Dinner and overnight stay in Gangotri.
Day 2: Gangotri to Bhojkharak
Begin your trek by visiting the sacred Gangotri shrine in the morning before heading out. The trek starts with crossing the Bhagirathi River and following a steep, well-marked trail through a forest of pine, fir, and bhoj trees. The ascent is gradual but steady. As you walk, Kedar Ganga flows alongside deep in the gorge, providing a soothing background of cascading waters. As the day progresses, Thalaysagar peak will come into view, growing closer with every step. A notable challenge on this route is the "Spider Wall," a steep and narrow rock face that requires careful footing. After crossing this section, you will reach Bhojkharak at 3,780 meters, a small but scenic campsite for the night.
Day 3: Bhojkharak to Kedar Kharak
This day's trek is a shorter but more demanding 5 km stretch through rugged terrain. The trail starts with dense forests and gradually opens up to alpine meadows and spectacular views of the Manda and Bhrigupanth peaks. You’ll need to navigate the tricky Gila Pahar, a landslide-prone area, before reaching the beautiful, expansive valley of Kedar Kharak at 4,280 meters. The campsite is surrounded by lush meadows where blue sheep (Bharal) can often be spotted. Kedar Kharak is a photographer’s paradise, with stunning views of Thalaysagar and Bhrigupanth Peaks.
Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Kedartal and back
The trek to Kedartal is both challenging and rewarding. The 5 km route to the lake involves navigating glacial moraines, crossing icy streams, and ascending steep rocky terrain. Depending on the season, the last stretch of the trek may involve walking on snow. As you reach the final ridge, the sight of Kedar Bamak Glacier and its glacial lakes will come into view, with the majestic Thalaysagar and Bhrigupanth peaks towering over. The still waters of Kedartal reflect these peaks, creating a surreal and mesmerizing landscape. After spending time at the lake and completing a short walk around (parikrama), you will trek back to Kedar Kharak for the night.
Day 5: Kedar Kharak to Gangotri
Begin the long descent back to Gangotri, retracing your steps through the same route. The trek, though long, is filled with beautiful views of the Himalayan peaks and lush valleys. After approximately 7-8 hours of trekking, you will reach Gangotri. Enjoy a comfortable night in a hotel after the long trek.
Day 6: Departure from Gangotri
